Biography

Dawn Belkin Martinez is a Clinical Professor and the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion at Boston University School of Social Work. With 30 years of experience as a scholar and clinical social worker, she is recognized nationally for her expertise in anti-oppressive social work practice. Dawn coordinates the clinical practice families sequence and has previously served as the chief social worker in the inpatient psychiatry service at Children’s Hospital Boston. In addition, she has been an instructor in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dawn is also a co-author of the book "Social Justice Clinical Practice: The Liberation Health Framework for Social Work" published by Routledge in 2014. As a founding member of the Boston Liberation Health Group, she trains and mentors over 2,700 social workers across the country in anti-oppressive practices. Her role as Associate Dean includes designing and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, alongside providing consultation and supervision for social justice-focused practices both nationally and internationally. Dawn is committed to addressing social justice issues, focusing on racial justice and community organizing, and advocates for marginalized populations, including the Latinx community.
