Biography

Dawn Moore is a Professor in the Department of Law and Legal Studies. Her research focuses on police responses to domestic violence and the implications of such responses on marginalized communities. She is currently engaged in a SSHRC funded project that examines the intersection of lived experience and artistic expression to challenge conventional victim narratives in the context of policing and prosecution. Moore's work also investigates the roles of various actors within the criminal justice system and their impact on individuals deemed as 'victims.' As a primary investigator for the Prison Transparency Project, she collaborates with international scholars and advocates to promote accountability and transparency in prisons across Canada, Argentina, and Spain. She teaches graduate seminars in criminal theory, research methods, and specializes in supervising student research in legal studies, sociology, and related fields. Moore's academic interests are informed by various theoretical frameworks, including feminist criminology, post-structuralism, and cultural criminology, and her recent publications reflect her commitment to exploring complex issues such as mental illness, prison conditions, and gender-based violence.
