Biography

Dawn Cassandra Parker is a Professor at the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo. She holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Resource Economics from the University of California, Davis, awarded in 2000, and a B.A. in Economics from Lewis Clark College, earned in 1992. Her research interests focus on residential land markets and the modeling of land-use, transportation, and environmental interactions. Parker has contributed significantly to the understanding of sustainable urban planning through agent-based modeling and complexity theory, working on various grants and projects such as the CIHR SMART Healthy Cities Training Platform and the Urban Growth Change Research Group. Her recent publications address topics including land systems sustainability and the relationship between light rail transit and residential property values. She is actively engaged in supervising graduate students and has taught several courses related to economic analyses in regional planning and agent-based modeling. Additionally, Parker has been recognized with awards such as the Biennial Medal from the International Environmental Modelling Software Association in 2012 and has served as a fellow for the Global Land Project since 2018.
