Biography

Dawn Tan is an Associate Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, where she leads the Photonics Devices and Systems Group. She obtained her doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, as a Powell Fellow. Dawn has previously served as a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and worked with the design team at Luxtera Inc. Her research encompasses experimental optical physics, nonlinear optical phenomena, nanophotonics, and quantum optics, with a focus on applications in optical communications, computing, imaging, and biomedicine. Dawn has published extensively, including three book chapters and over 30 refereed journal and conference articles in the fields of integrated optics, silicon photonics, and nonlinear optics. She is committed to bridging the gap between industry and academia, seeking innovative solutions to physical and technological challenges. In addition, she has been involved in various outreach programs in the United States, promoting STEM education and enhancing the participation of women in engineering.
