Dawn Tan is an Associate Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design where she leads the Photonics Devices and Systems Group. She received her doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University of California San Diego, where she was a Powell Fellow. Previously, she served as a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was part of the design team at Luxtera Inc. Dawn has been recognized with several awards including the L’Oréal Women in Science National Fellowship and was named among the Innovators 35 by MIT Technology Review. Her research interests include experimental optical physics, nonlinear optical phenomena, and applications of nanophotonics in various fields such as optical communications and biomedicine. With a robust publication record, she has published three book chapters and 30 refereed journal articles. Prior to her tenure at SUTD, she was involved in outreach programs in the United States and held leadership roles in promoting STEM among K-12 students. She is actively engaged in initiatives to increase the representation of women in engineering.
