Dr. Dayan Ban

Biography

Dayan Ban is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and serves as the Associate Director of the Centre for Intelligent Antenna and Radio Systems at the University of Waterloo. He is also a researcher at the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology. His research focuses on the conversion of near-infrared light to visible light and the design and fabrication of high-performance quantum devices. He has made significant advancements in the field of ultra-sensitive surface plasmon sensors and has improved the efficiency of hybrid organic/inorganic devices by several orders of magnitude through his work with time-domain terahertz spectroscopy. Professor Ban has pioneered new scanning probe microscopy methods to achieve nanometric spatial resolution and has analyzed the performance of semiconductor lasers through experimental visualization of their inner workings. His work has contributed to the development of quantum semiconductor devices and nanotechnology. He has a strong interest in semiconductor quantum devices, photonics, THz technology, and nanofabrication.
