Biography

Dean Chamberlain holds a BSc and a PhD and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Medicine, specializing in Oncology. His research focuses on Precision Medicine, Tissue Engineering, 3D Cancer Models, Tumor Microenvironment, and Chemotherapy Testing. The Chamberlain Lab aims to develop new tools and assays to improve the selection of treatment regimens for cancer patients. Using a multitude of approaches, the lab stratifies patients based on their responses to cancer therapies, including the determination of new biomarkers for cancer sub-classification and directly testing chemotherapies on patient-derived tumor organoids. Current research efforts involve identifying molecular profiles that predict patient responses to cancer therapies, leveraging both public and in-house generated data. The aim is to pinpoint simple mutations and variances that could lead to actionable targeted drug treatments. Furthermore, the lab is developing the next generation of tumor organoids for drug testing, emphasizing 3D cell culture methods to better understand how tumors respond to drug treatments. The objective is to create in vitro techniques for testing cancer therapies using patient-derived tumor organoid models to advance precision medicine.
