Biography

Dr. Dean Chamberlain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology at the University of Saskatchewan and holds the Jean E. Murray Chair in Cancer Research. He is also an Associate Member of the Division of Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on the development of new tools and assays to improve the selection of treatment regimens for cancer patients. His lab investigates multiple approaches to stratify patients based on their responses to cancer therapies, including the identification of new biomarkers for cancer sub-classification and the direct testing of chemotherapies using patient-derived tumour organoids. Current research projects aim to identify molecular profiles that predict patient responses to various cancer therapies by analyzing both public and in-house generated data. Dr. Chamberlain's work is geared towards discovering simple mutations and variances in tumors that can lead to actionable targeted drug treatments. Additionally, his lab works to develop 3D tumor organoid models that more accurately replicate the tumor microenvironment compared to traditional 2D cultures, thereby enhancing the understanding of tumor responses to drug treatments. The overall goal of his research is to develop precise cancer therapies that can effectively address the needs of poorly responding patients.
