Dean Chamberlain is an Assistant Professor and Research Scientist in the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency at the University of Saskatchewan. He holds the Jean E. Murray Chair in Cancer Research. His research focuses on the development of new tools and assays to improve the selection of treatment regimens for cancer patients. The Chamberlain Lab employs a multitude of approaches to stratify patients based on their responses to cancer therapies, which includes determining new biomarkers for cancer sub-classification and testing chemotherapies using patient-derived tumour organoids. Current projects involve identifying molecular profiles that can predict patient responses to cancer therapies, analyzing both public and in-house generated data, and correlating tumour types with specific reactions to therapies. The lab's work aims to discover actionable mutations and gene expression profiles that can further differentiate tumours into high and low responders to treatment. This research is critical for the development of novel combinational cancer therapies, particularly for patients who poorly respond to traditional treatments. The Chamberlain Lab is also pioneering the generation of tumour organoid models based on principles from tissue engineering, enhancing the understanding of how tumours respond to drug treatments.
