Biography

Deanna S. Alexander, O.D., F.A.A.O, graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California at Berkeley. A native of Colorado, she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Deanna has held various leadership positions in optometry; she served as the past President of the Colorado Optometric Association and the President of the Southwest Council of Optometry. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Over her career, Deanna has received multiple accolades for her contributions to the field, including being awarded the 2008 Optometrist of the Year and the 2012 Distinguished Service Award by the Colorado Optometric Association. In 2009, she was recognized as the national Optometrist of the Year by the American Optometric Association due to her volunteer work. In 2015, she was chosen as the Optometrist of the Year for a thirteen-state region. Deanna has been actively involved in legislative efforts in Colorado for 25 years and has been the state legislative chair since 2007. Currently, she chairs the AOA State Government Relations Committee and is a member of the AOA Advocacy Executive Committee. Deanna runs a full-time private group practice in Fort Collins, Colorado, specializing in primary care optometry and working with partially sighted individuals.
