Biography

Deanna Reder (Cree-Métis) is a Professor in the Departments of Indigenous Studies and English at Simon Fraser University, where she specializes in Indigenous literature and its critical contexts. Reder's research focuses on the neglected Indigenous literary archive, notably through an SSHRC-funded project titled 'The People Text: Indigenous Writing Northern North America 1992.' Her influential monograph published in 2022, 'Autobiography Indigenous Intellectual Tradition: Cree Métis âcimisowin,' received the 2022 Gabrielle Roy Prize for Canadian literary criticism. Reder is a founding member of the Indigenous Literary Studies Association (2013) and the Indigenous Editors Association (2019), and served as a co-chair for the Indigenous Voices Awards from 2018 to 2023. She was inducted into the College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists of the Royal Society of Canada in fall 2018. Her publications include edited volumes and numerous book chapters that engage with themes of Indigenous identity, narratives, and the intersection of literature and history, demonstrating her commitment to advancing Indigenous scholarship and pedagogy in literary studies.
