Dr. Deb Bakerjian

Biography

Deb Bakerjian is a Clinical Professor and Associate Dean of Practice at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, University of California, Davis. She is responsible for leading the school's clinical enterprise and overseeing the development and implementation of clinical faculty practice within UC Davis Health. Her research primarily focuses on improving the quality of care for aging populations, particularly in nursing homes, and she emphasizes patient safety and quality improvement in long-term care. She has been pivotal in the establishment of the family nurse practitioner and physician assistant programs as master's degree programs at the school. Bakerjian has led numerous workforce enhancement initiatives funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration. Currently, she directs the primary care nurse practitioner residency program, enhancing skills for nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Her accolades include being the co-principal investigator for essential healthcare resources and initiatives aimed at improving long-term care quality for consumers. Bakerjian is actively involved in various health system service areas and holds leadership positions in national and state nursing organizations. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
