Biography

Deb Roy is a Professor in the Media Arts and Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and directs the MIT Center for Constructive Communication (CCC). His research focuses on designing human-AI systems that foster dialogue, listening, and deliberation to build civic engagement. Co-founder of Cortico, he works on developing conversation platforms aimed at amplifying underheard voices and creating dialogue networks. His TED talk, 'The Birth of a Word,' presents groundbreaking research on language development. Roy, originally from Canada, has received a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo and a PhD in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT.
