Dr. Debarun Dutta

Biography

Debarun Dutta is a Visiting Fellow at the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales, Australia. His research focuses on the anterior ocular surface, including the tear film lipid layer, ocular infections, antibiotic resistance, and the development of novel antimicrobial agents to combat bacterial resistance. He employs various study designs, including basic laboratory experiments, animal models, and human clinical trials, to investigate these domains. Dutta has supervised multiple PhD students on projects related to tear film biomarkers in dry eye disease and the impact of cataract surgery on ocular surface health. He holds a PhD in the Development of Antimicrobial Contact Lenses from the University of NSW, attained in 2014, alongside postgraduate fellowships and a bachelor's degree in optometry from esteemed institutions in India. His professional memberships include the British Contact Lens Association and the American Academy of Optometry, where he actively contributes to ongoing research and education in optometry.
