After completing her Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1996, Debbie worked across various health and welfare settings providing support to vulnerable children, young people, and families. In 2001, she managed research projects for government and non-government organizations, including Carers Australia and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. Currently, she is affiliated with the Australian National University where she conducts qualitative research on sensitive issues affecting young carers, adoption, child and youth homelessness, and children impacted by parental substance abuse and family violence.
