Biography

Deborah Brief is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Psychiatry. She received her Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1984 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Washington in 1987. Dr. Brief also serves as the Section Chief for Substance Abuse Treatment Services at the VA Boston Healthcare System. Her research interests primarily focus on evaluating the effectiveness of psychosocial and pharmacological treatment interventions for alcohol and drug dependence, as well as co-occurring substance use and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in returning veterans. She has initiated research into the effectiveness of web-based interventions aimed at addressing problem drinking and PTSD symptoms among veterans. Her work has been supported by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Additionally, Dr. Brief is a mentor for graduate students at Boston University and actively contributes to the Boston Consortium Clinical Psychology Internship Training Program and the VA Boston Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Training Program.
