Dr. Deborah Gold

Biography

Deborah T. Gold is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. Her research primarily focuses on the psychosocial consequences of chronic illness in older adults, with a special concentration on osteoporosis and its psychological and social impacts. Over the years, Dr. Gold has studied various medical conditions including breast cancer, syncope, head and neck cancer, Parkinson's disease, and Paget's disease of bone. Her current research investigates compliance and persistence with osteoporosis medications, exploring how demographic factors such as race and ethnicity influence medication decision-making. Dr. Gold is actively involved in steering committees for major observational studies on osteoporosis medications and works closely with voluntary health organizations to translate research findings into positive real-world outcomes for individuals living with chronic illness. She has also served as the Chair of the Education Committee for the National Osteoporosis Foundation and has chaired the International Symposium on Osteoporosis for eight years.
