Dr. Deborah Gross

Biography

Deborah Gross is a Professor at Johns Hopkins University, holding the Leonard Helen R. Stulman Endowed Professorship in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. Her work primarily focuses on designing and scaling behavioral health interventions that support families with young children in low-income and underserved communities who have experienced trauma and adversity. She holds joint appointments in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences as well as the Bloomberg School of Public Health's Department of Mental Health. Dr. Gross and her colleagues developed the Chicago Parent Program (CPP), an evidence-based parenting skills program created in collaboration with Black/African-American and Latino parents in low-income communities. Since its inception, CPP has been utilized in schools, early childhood programs, human service agencies, and child mental health settings across 25 states and the District of Columbia. She has received numerous accolades, including the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellowship and the American Academy of Nursing Edge Runner award for her outstanding contributions to nursing research. Dr. Gross has published extensively on topics related to parenting, children's mental health, and designing equitable, community-based interventions aimed at leveraging family strengths and resilience. Her work emphasizes creating scalable interventions to address the needs of families with young children, and she serves on editorial boards for notable journals related to nursing and health.
