Biography

Deborah Streeter is an emerita professor at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, where she previously held the Bruce F. Failing, Sr. Professorship in Personal Enterprise and Small Business Management. Her teaching, research, and outreach activities focus on entrepreneurship and small business management. Streeter's interests encompass university-wide models for teaching entrepreneurship, the utilization of digital media in education, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion within corporate entrepreneurial settings, with a particular emphasis on gender. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Bank of America Institute for Women's Entrepreneurship at Cornell and has authored various online certificate programs on women's leadership at eCornell. In 2016, she served as a national instructor for the National Science Foundation's (NSF) I-Corps program, designed to help innovators in universities learn the customer discovery process. In 2022, Cornell received the I-Corps Hub award from NSF, with Streeter contributing to ongoing activities at the Center for Regional Economic Advancement (CREA). Throughout her career, she has garnered recognition for her teaching excellence, emphasizing experiential learning, active learning, and innovative technology use in the classroom, receiving honors such as the Olympus Innovator Award in 2007, the Constance E. Alice H Cook Award in 2004, and being named a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow in 2000. Streeter earned her MS in 1980 and PhD in 1984 in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
