Biography

Debra Howcroft is a Professor in the Technology and Organisation area at the Alliance Manchester Business School. She has served as (co) Editor-in-Chief of the journal New Technology, Work and Employment from 2012 to 2023. Her research focuses broadly on how new technology influences organizing, work, and employment. Current research is centered on the impact of digitalization on working practices, skills, and occupational identities. Another major area of interest is the experience of technology workers in relation to workplace changes and shifting labor markets. Additionally, she investigates the role of platforms in coordinating distributed labor and their implications for contemporary work and employment. Howcroft's work is related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and aims at addressing issues of global inequalities and work equalities through the lens of digital futures.
