Dr. Debra Jared is a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Western University, where she has been involved for over 30 years. She is the Principal Investigator in the Cognitive and Developmental Brain Sciences Area. Before joining Western University, Dr. Jared earned her PhD from McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Mark Seidenberg. She completed her postdoctoral research at McMaster University with Dr. Betty Ann Levy, as well as with Dr. Keith Rayner and Dr. Judy Kroll in Massachusetts. Her research has been continuously funded by NSERC Discovery Grants. In addition, Dr. Jared has served on the NSERC Discovery Grants Evaluation Panel, where she held the position of Chair for the Cognitive Science section in 2022-23. In the early 2000s, Dr. Jared led a multi-site longitudinal study on reading development among children in French Immersion, supported by the Canadian Language Literacy Research Network. Furthermore, she has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Memory and Language and Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, and has provided reviews for manuscripts submitted to over 50 scientific journals. Dr. Jared is a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Science as well as a Fellow of the Psychonomic Society.
