Biography

Dechun Zhang is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen, affiliated with the Center for Tracking Society. His current research focuses on the ERC Advanced Grant project "GREENWATCH – Green Surveillance: Imagining Sustainable Internet of Things," exploring IoT applications for environmental monitoring and their ethical political implications. His research interests include Political Communication, Media Politics, Digital Politics, Digital Propaganda, and Online Participation. Dechun has authored a book titled "Digital Nationalism: Affective Governance, Propaganda, Public Sentiment, and Soft Authoritarianism in China" published by Routledge. He is also an affiliated researcher at the Leiden Asia Centre and part of the China Knowledge Network, a Dutch government-supported initiative aimed at promoting expertise related to China. Dechun has held editorial positions for several journals, serves as a reviewer for academic journals and conferences, and has participated in various international academic activities.
