Biography

Dee studied music at the University of Edinburgh and composition under Professor Nigel Osborne. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with various professional arts bodies in the UK, including Opera North, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Ballet, Share Music UK, and Creative Scotland. In 2003, she was nominated for a British Composer Award for her mixed-ability chamber opera 'Festus' with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Dee continues to create immersive arts projects for children in landmark venues both in Edinburgh and internationally. She has collaborated with the international children's charity War Child in Amsterdam to establish a creative developmental arts program for refugee children in the Republic of Georgia and the Athens Project, which supports children and families through music camps. Her endeavors include the Gambia Project in collaboration with the Alla Leake Kunda Drum School, which enables students to study West African drumming, song, and dance while working in local schools. Dee is a passionate advocate for the creation of music with wider value.
