Biography

Deepak Cyril D’Souza, MD, is a Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine and serves as a staff psychiatrist at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System (VACHS). He received his medical degree from St. John's Medical College in Bangalore, India, in 1986 and completed his psychiatric residency at the State University of New York Downstate in 1992. He has an extensive clinical background spanning three decades, specializing in neuropsychiatry and psychiatric research. D’Souza directs the Neuropsychiatry Program at VACHS, focusing on serious mental illnesses, psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders. He is also the Director of the Schizophrenia Neuropharmacology Research Group (SNRGY) at Yale, leading experimental psychopharmacological studies using various substances to explore their impact on neurotransmitter systems related to psychosis and cognitive deficits. His research is supported by prestigious institutions such as the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). D’Souza has contributed significantly to psychiatric literature, with publications in high-impact journals and serves as a mentor for junior faculty pursuing academic careers.
