Dr. Deepak Gopinath

Biography

Deepak Gopinath is the Associate Director of Planning Sustainable Change at the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol. He is a qualified architect and urban planner with a focus on critical urban transitions, planning education, and the wellbeing of communities. Deepak has extensive experience in collaborative research projects, particularly in resilience and sustainability within urban environments. His work involves engaging with diverse stakeholders and promoting innovative teaching practices to foster reflective learning. He has been involved in various funded projects, including the Sustainable Schools initiative and the CCC-CATAPULT project, aimed at addressing the climate crisis through educational and participatory methods. He advocates for capacity building among practitioners and supports the integration of reflective practices within planning education, thereby enhancing the skills of future professionals in managing environmental change. His contributions to the field have been recognized through his fellowship with the Higher Education Academy and his role as a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. Deepak also actively participates in advisory roles, influencing the direction of town and country planning education in the UK.
