Biography

Deepak Kalaskar is a multidisciplinary scientist with extensive experience in research, management, and education within the area of biomedical engineering and biomaterials. His research is primarily focused on the development of novel materials, their analysis, and applications aimed at solving real-life problems in medicine. He has significant expertise in biomaterials, biocompatible coatings, and 3D printing technologies, specifically in the design and development of medical devices and implants, as well as in stem cell applications. Collaborating closely with various industries, as well as clinical and academic partnerships, he is involved in developing new medical products and processes necessary for clinical translation. He is currently running three clinical trials in hospitals to expedite the translation of technologies from bench to bedside. His research group has received substantial research funding from the UK Research and Innovation (including EPSRC and MRC-AMR) as well as from UK-based charities and industries. Deepak has edited and authored four books in the field of 3D Printing in Medicine (Elsevier), Nanomedicine (OpenPress), and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (UCL Press). He currently directs the MSc course in Burns, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery at University College London (UCL), educating clinicians and scientists on translational medicine.
