Biography

Deepak Kumar is an Associate Professor at Boston University College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College. He is a clinician-scientist directing the Movement & Applied Imaging Lab, focusing his research on developing mechanism-based, technology-enabled movement interventions that sustain benefits in pain and physical function for middle- to older-age adults suffering from knee osteoarthritis (OA). His research group investigates movement dysfunction underlying knee OA, develops state-of-the-art technologies to assess movement in lab-based and real-world environments, and creates movement interventions informed by pain neuroscience. Deepak received his graduate training in physical therapy in India and completed his doctorate in biomechanics at the University of Delaware. He later engaged in postdoctoral research in advanced imaging of osteoarthritis at the University of California, San Francisco. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Division of Physical Therapy, Medical University of South Carolina. He holds an appointment in the Section of Rheumatology at the BU School of Medicine and is a member of the Arthritis & Autoimmune Diseases Research Center at Boston Medical Center.
