Dr. Deepak Somaya

Biography

Deepak Somaya is the Diane Steven N. Miller Professor of Business Administration at the Gies College of Business and the College of Law at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He provides leadership as the Academic Director of the Origin Ventures Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership and holds an appointment as an Edwards Scholar at the Discovery Partners Institute in Chicago. Somaya's research emphasizes the strategic importance of knowledge assets, including human capital and technology, as well as scalable business models facilitated by digital innovation. He was awarded a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Bombay, followed by an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management at Calcutta. He completed his PhD in Business Administration at the University of California at Berkeley. His career at the University of Illinois has included numerous roles, from an Assistant Professor to his current position as a Professor. Somaya has been recognized for his contributions to research and education, including multiple awards for excellence in research and recognition as a Fellow.
