Dr. Deepthi Kamawar

Biography

Deepthi Kamawar is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Carleton University. Her academic background includes a B.Sc. in Cognitive Science and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto and York University, respectively. She completed her M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Toronto. Kamawar's research interests primarily focus on issues related to young children's cognitive development. She specifically examines the developing abilities of 4- to 6-year-olds in future-oriented cognition and executive function skills such as inhibition and cognitive flexibility. Her work aims to understand how children represent the minds of people and how these representations influence their moral evaluations. The research also explores children's understanding of intention in behavior and how these considerations affect their moral judgments. Throughout her career, she has contributed significantly to the field of developmental psychology, particularly in the area of Theory of Mind, and has examined various types of representation among children.
