Deirdre Collins is an NHMRC Early Career Fellow working in Professor Thomas Riley's Clostridium difficile research group, based in the R&D laboratories of PathWest Laboratory Medicine at the QEII Medical Centre. She completed her PhD in Microbiology with a focus on Epidemiology of Clostridium difficile infection in the Asia Pacific region at the University of Western Australia from 2012 to 2016. Prior to her PhD, she obtained a Master's degree in Infectious Diseases from the University of Western Australia in 2011 and a Bachelor's degree in Human Genetics from Trinity College Dublin in 2007. Collins has experience as an Epidemiologist in food-borne disease surveillance at the Department of Health in Western Australia since March 2022. Additionally, she has held a position as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University since August 2016. Her research interests include Health and Systems Dynamics approaches to reducing Clostridioides difficile infection, as well as investigating ribotypes of Clostridium difficile in circulation in Asia.
