Dr. Demetrios Christodoulides

Biography

Demetrios Christodoulides received his Ph.D. degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1986. He subsequently joined Bellcore as a post-doctoral fellow in Murray Hill. Between 1988 and 2002, he was a faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Lehigh University. In 2002, he joined the College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where he held the Cobb Family Endowed Chair and served as a Pegasus Professor in Optics. In 2022, he became a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). Dr. Christodoulides' research interests include linear and nonlinear optical beam interactions, synthetic optical materials, optical solitons, and quantum electronics. He has authored or co-authored more than 450 papers and is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society. He has received several prestigious awards, including the R.W. Wood Prize from OSA in 2011, the OSA Max Born Award in 2018, and the Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Science in 2023.
