Biography

Demetrios Christodoulides received his Ph.D. degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1986 and subsequently joined Bellcore as a post-doctoral fellow in Murray Hill. From 1988 to 2002, he was a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Lehigh University. In 2002, he joined the College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL) at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where he held the Cobb Family Endowed Chair and served as Pegasus Professor in Optics. In 2022, he became a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). Dr. Christodoulides’ research interests include linear and nonlinear optical beam interactions, synthetic optical materials, optical solitons, and quantum electronics. He has authored and co-authored more than 450 papers. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society. In 2011, he received the R.W. Wood Prize from the OSA, in 2018, he was awarded the OSA Max Born Award, and in 2023, he received the Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Science.
