Biography

Denis Lalanne is the director of the Human-IST institute and a full professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Fribourg. He leads the 'human-building interaction' group at the Smart Living Lab and represents Switzerland in IFIP TC13. After completing a PhD at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) focusing on computer-assisted creativity, he held a post-doc position at the IBM Almaden Research Center in the USER group and spent one year teaching and researching at the University of Avignon. His tenure at the University of Fribourg began in 2002, initially working as a senior researcher on the FNS PRN IM2, and he became a professor in 2015 specializing in human-machine interaction. He founded the Human-IST institute in 2017, focusing on various facets of human-machine interaction, particularly multimodal interaction and information visualization. Recently, his research has revolved around human-building interaction to understand and enhance the comfort of building occupants and human-AI interaction to improve team collaboration and support accessibility and rehabilitation.
