Biography

Denis Roy received his Bachelor of Science from Queen’s University Kingston, where he benefited from internships at the Atmospheric Environment Service under Environment Canada. He obtained his Master of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Windsor while working on a joint project with the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor, MI. His doctoral research, also at Windsor, combined genetic techniques and environmental tracers to demonstrate eco-driven adaptive radiation in rare fishes of insular lakes in the Sulawesi highlands of Indonesia. Following his PhD, he was a post-doctoral researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, where he characterized biodiversity in alpine and peri-alpine aquatic ecosystems using genetic and morphological approaches. As an NSERC Post-Doctoral Fellow at Dalhousie University, he utilized genetic methods to clarify and relate population structure of highly exploited marine species for fisheries management and conservation efforts. Prior to McGill, he served as an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Connecticut. His research currently focuses on developing genomic resources and bioinformatics tools to understand the impacts of rapid environmental changes on fish ecology and evolution.
