Dr. Denise Meyerson

Biography

Denise Meyerson completed her Bachelor of Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand before earning a Bachelor of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford. She holds a Bachelor of Laws, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Cape Town. Meyerson is an Emeritus Professor at the Macquarie Law School, where she has been a faculty member since 2000. Prior to her appointment in Australia, she taught at the University of Cape Town in both the Philosophy Department and the Law Faculty, holding the prestigious W.P. Schreiner Chair in Jurisprudence. Throughout her career, she has served in various leadership roles, including as Head of the Department of Law at Macquarie. Her scholarly contributions extend to editorial roles in several journals and participation in esteemed panels such as the Australian Research Council College of Experts. Meyerson's research focuses on law, human rights, and justice, evidenced by her publications in theoretical and applied jurisprudence and constitutional theory. Her notable works include the books 'False Consciousness' and 'Jurisprudence,' which received recognition at the Australian Educational Publishing Awards. Additionally, she has received multiple research grants to explore procedural justice and surgical innovation.
