Biography

Dennis Golm is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Southampton. He studied Psychology at the University of Göttingen in Germany and completed his PhD in the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the same university under the supervision of Professor Birgit Kröner-Herwig. Golm has been involved in various research groups focusing on emotional problems such as depression and anxiety, and nutritional psychiatry. His main research interests lie in developmental psychopathology, analyzing mechanisms of early risk factors, particularly early adverse experiences like institutional deprivation and childhood maltreatment, that contribute to the emergence of mental health issues. He teaches courses in developmental clinical psychology and developmental psychopathology, covering topics such as early adversity and emotional development. Golm also leads an optional undergraduate module titled 'Childhood Maltreatment and Mental Health'. He is active in outreach projects aiming to educate young children through the NeuroKids initiative, which features educational videos and workshops. He has previously worked on the English Romanian Adoptees Study and holds honorary positions in child and adolescent psychiatry at King's College London and Boston Children's Hospital.
