Biography

Dennis Huisman is a full professor of Public Transport Optimization at the Econometric Institute, Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). His current research focuses on Operations Research models and techniques that support the planning operations of railway operators and complex logistical issues. He also combines his role at ESE with expertise in managing logistic processes at Netherlands Railways. Huisman was a member of the Netherlands Railways team that won the Franz Edelman Award in 2008, known as the Super Bowl of Operations Research. He is a co-founder of the Erasmus Center for Optimization in Public Transport and served as co-chair for the OR2013 (International Conference on Operations Research) held in Rotterdam. Huisman obtained his PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2004, with a thesis that dealt with integrated dynamic vehicle crew scheduling. His work emphasizes the optimization of public transport systems and collaborations with industry professionals to enhance logistical efficiency in the sector.
