Biography

Dennis Lin is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Penn State. He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin in 1988 and a B.A. in Mathematics from National Tsinghua University in 1981. His research focuses on statistical methodologies applicable to business, industry, and government, particularly in data mining, experimental design, and quality assurance methods such as Six Sigma. Lin's work involves statistical tools for modeling, Bayesian inference, and time-series analysis, along with investigating dimensional analysis, internet search engines, and data science. He has published nearly 250 papers in various journals within the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and serves as an associate editor for over 10 professional journals, including co-editing the 'Applied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry.' Elected as a fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, Lin is a lifetime member of the International Chinese Statistical Association and has held honorary positions in several institutions. He has received numerous awards, such as the Deming Lecturer designation in 2020 and the Yuan-Shin Chow Award in 2019.
