Dennis McFadden is an Ashbel Smith Professor Emeritus in Experimental Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1967, and spent his entire academic career at UT Austin, where he began as an Assistant Professor and was elevated to Professor Emeritus in 2012. His research has focused on auditory perception, specifically sound localization, binaural hearing, and physiological sex differences in hearing. He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health for various studies since 1969 and was awarded the Jacobs Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award and Piper Professorship for excellence in teaching. McFadden has served as a founding member of the UT Institute of Neuroscience and has held editorial positions in academic journals. His research interests expanded to include the effects of hormones on hearing, utilizing both human subjects and animal models. Following retirement, he continues to be engaged in hearing research, lifelong learning activities, and community biking excursions with his wife, Nancy McFadden.
