Biography

Dennis Michaelson received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Western University in 2017, after obtaining a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science, specializing in Automation Engineering, from Simon Fraser University in 1993. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Western Ontario, where he focuses on research topics including renewable energy microgrids, small modular reactors, energy management, and embedded real-time systems. Additionally, he is involved in Indigenous engineering education and serves on the Canadian Indigenous Advisory Council of the American Indian Science Engineering Society. He has notable experience from his previous position as a Postdoctoral Associate Research Engineer at Western University and has held leadership roles including Vice-President of Engineering at EK3 Technologies, Inc., where he led a team developing secure networked embedded systems for multimedia applications.
