As a historian, Derek Ide's primary research focuses on anticolonial internationalist movements that challenge imperialism in the 20th century. His dissertation analyzed the internationalist commitments that bound Black radicals and Palestinian revolutionaries together in the quest for liberation. He further explores the commitments that encouraged, shaped, and limited centers of anticolonial activity during the Cold War.
