Biography

As a historian, Derek Ide's primary research focuses on anticolonial internationalist movements that challenge imperialism in the 20th century. His dissertation analyzed the internationalist commitments that bound Black radicals and Palestinian revolutionaries together in the quest for liberation. He further explores the commitments that encouraged, shaped, and limited centers of anticolonial activity during the Cold War. Before joining UM as an IHP / ARC-NCID Postdoctoral Fellow, Derek's work was published in various journals including the Lebanese journal Al-Adab and the International Journal of Strikes and Social Conflict. He taught at the University of Toledo and the University of Houston, and served as a visiting instructor of History at Miami University (Regionals).
