Biography

Derek Schipper's research focuses on tackling synthetic challenges posed in the context of conjugated organic materials, which are poised to make significant technological breakthroughs and enable advancements in flexible, lightweight, low-cost electronic devices such as photovoltaics, light-emitting diodes, and field-effect transistors. The performance of devices depends on the bulk properties of the active material, with improvements arising from modifications at the molecular level. His research group excels in designing and constructing new materials through innovative synthetic capabilities, all aimed at answering fundamental questions related to structure-function relationships. This work ultimately leads to enhanced properties of new materials and, consequently, improved device performance.
