Professor Dermot O’Hare, born in Newry, Co. studied at Balliol College, Oxford, where he obtained his BSc in 1982 and D. Phil in 1985 under the supervision of Professor M.L.H Green. He was awarded the Royal Commission 1851 Research Fellowship and became a visiting research fellow at CR&D E.I. du Pont de Nemours in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1986/7, working in Professor J.S. As a Royal Society Chemistry Sir Edward Frankland Fellow, he received the Exxon European Chemical Engineering Prize in 1997 and became a full Professor in 1998. O'Hare leads a multi-disciplinary research team focusing on catalysis and nanomaterials, addressing global challenges related to energy use and the circular economy. He was instrumental in establishing the SCG-Oxford Centre of Excellence for Chemistry in 2012, which has significantly contributed to scientific and commercial ties between the UK and Thailand, receiving multiple awards for its innovative contributions to the field.
