Biography

Dr. Derron O. Wallace is an Associate Professor of Africana Studies and Education Policy at Brown University. Prior to joining Brown, he served as the Jacob S. Potofsky Associate Professor of Sociology and Education at Brandeis University. An award-winning sociologist, Dr. Wallace examines the relationship between social policies, political power, and young people, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Wallace focuses his research on issues of racial inequality and educational disparities faced by Black youth, utilizing ethnographic and qualitative methods to analyze the complex dynamics of race and class in education. His research interests bridge multiple fields including Africana Studies and Sociology.
