Biography

Desiree Foerster studies the new media arts design process from a relational critical phenomenology perspective. Currently based at the University of Chicago, she is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Cinema and Media Studies and is the director of the Gray CoLaboratory for Arts Science. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor of Digital Media Culture Studies at Utrecht University. Foerster completed her PhD at the Institute of Arts Media at the University of Potsdam, focusing her thesis on 'Aesthetic Experience Metabolic Processes.' She holds additional degrees in Media Culture Analysis from Düsseldorf (MA) and Comparative Literature and Philosophy from Bochum (BA). She regularly collaborates with colleagues on arts science projects related to research-creation. Her research interests encompass phenomenology of media, ecologies, affect, process philosophy, sensory studies, and immersive technologies.
