Dr. Desmond Yip

Biography

Professor Desmond Yip is a senior staff specialist in Medical Oncology at Canberra Hospital and a professor at the ANU Medical School. He is a full-time practicing medical oncologist whose primary clinical research interests lie in gastrointestinal oncology, developmental therapeutics, and cancer drugs. He subspecializes in renal cell carcinoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Dr. Yip is an active member of the Cancer Institute NSW eviQ Medical Oncology Reference Committee and serves as an executive member of the Medical Oncology Group Australia. He also holds the position of treasurer for the Private Cancer Physicians Australia and chair of the Clinical Oncology Society Australia's Global Oncology Group. His work extends to serving on the Australian Government Professional Services Review Panel and as an active member of the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group, where he chairs the grants committee and participates in various study management committees. Desmond Yip has published over 160 journal articles and book chapters and has collaborated with the John James Foundation and Australian Government programs to enhance cancer services in the South Pacific Islands. Currently, he is coordinating efforts with multiple stakeholders to establish cancer care at the Port Moresby General Hospital in Papua New Guinea. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Medicine and a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
