Dr. Desmund Wu

Biography

Desmund Wu teaches legal research writing at the University of Wisconsin Law School to first-year law students. He employs pedagogically-grounded teaching methods by designing syllabi and active learning activities aimed at achieving course learning outcomes. Professor Wu measures student progress through both graded and ungraded formative assessments, providing extensive written feedback. Before joining the legal writing faculty, he taught at USC Gould School of Law and practiced litigation at large law firms in Los Angeles, specifically with Lambda Legal as an LGBT civil rights attorney. He was involved in significant cases like Strauss v. Horton, challenging California's Proposition 8. Wu also served as an admissions officer, enhancing student diversity through outreach to underrepresented minorities. He graduated with a J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 2009, holds a Master of Applied Biosciences from Keck Graduate Institute, and earned a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, Riverside. Wu has previously served on the Law School Admissions Council's Subcommittee on Misconduct and Irregularities in the Admission Process, emphasizing a student-centered learning philosophy in his teaching.
