Dr. Despoina Mantzari

Biography

Despoina (Deni) Mantzari is an Associate Professor in Competition Law at University College London (UCL) and co-Director of the Centre for Law, Economics and Society. Her research focuses on the intersection of competition law, sector-specific regulation, and public law, employing a distinctive comparative approach across the EU and UK. Deni's interdisciplinary methodology integrates political science and economics, and her scholarship combines doctrinal analysis with qualitative and empirical methods. She has published extensively in leading journals including the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, Modern Law Review, Journal of Competition Law and Economics, and Journal of Antitrust Enforcement. Deni's monograph, "Courts, Regulators and the Scrutiny of Economic Evidence – Comparative Perspectives" (Oxford University Press, 2022), explores how courts and regulators evaluate complex economic evidence in various jurisdictions. Deni joined UCL in 2019 after serving as a Lecturer at the University of Reading and has held roles in competitive policy research at notable institutions. Furthermore, she is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and has shared her expertise as a guest lecturer with the European Commission. With a robust academic background, including a PhD from UCL and qualifications in law, Deni actively contributes to the field of competition law education and research.
