Biography

Dev Niyogi is a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, where he leads the Extreme Weather and Urban Sustainability (TExUS) Lab and co-leads the UT-City CoLab. His research focuses on understanding and improving the prediction and mitigation of weather hazards such as heavy rains, urban thunderstorms, landfalling hurricanes, and extreme heat. Niyogi has co-authored 300 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and has co-edited books including 'Global Urban Heat Island Mitigation'. He joined the University of Texas at Austin in 2020 after serving as a state climatologist in Indiana and as an emeritus professor at Purdue University. Niyogi is also involved with the Planet Texas 2050 organizing committee and initiatives related to Ethical AI and Smart Cities.
