Dr. Deval Desai

Biography

Deval Desai is a Reader in International Economic Law at Edinburgh Law School, where his scholarly work focuses on law and development, administrative law regulation, and the role of knowledge and expertise in institutional reform processes. He joined the Edinburgh Law School in 2020 and has taught at renowned institutions including Geneva Graduate Institute, Harvard Law School, and SOAS. His interdisciplinary research has been funded by various institutions, studying complex issues such as the implications of fiscal arrangements in conflict-affected contexts and the democratic effects of digital platform regulation in the Global South. Desai serves as the editor-in-chief for a Cambridge University Press book series and is actively involved in several editorial boards. He has received multiple accolades for his work, including the Dame Muriel Spark Medal from the Royal Society of Edinburgh for exceptional achievements in arts and social sciences and the Rising Star Award from the University of Edinburgh. Committed to mentorship, he supports junior faculty and early career scholars, particularly from the Global South, and co-directs the Global Justice summer school at CEU.
